Compressing dongles and security improvements to the licensing suite
We have made a number of modifications to the License Suite to allow you to compress the memory stored in the dongle to store more activations.
The dongles have enough memory to store about 20 activations, which means you can plug it into one computer, activate it, then plug it into another computer, and so on.
20 computers is more than enough for a volatile key, but in case the user activates more computers, the key will run out of memory and there will be no choice but to delete the activations and start from scratch.
Perhaps with a single-port dongle we will never encounter this problem, but if we have a network dongle, with 250 licenses for example, we will encounter this problem quickly.
To solve this problem, we have introduced to the licensing suite the program Compress Key that will allow us to compress the dongle to allow storing more licenses.
** Warning! **
Programs released prior to June 22 of 2015 are not compatible with compressed keys Make sure you have all programs updated before compressing the dongle.
From the moment the dongle is compressed, every time we activate a key with the program Activate Computer, it stores the licenses in compressed form.
We can remove the compression of a dongle by deleting all the licenses stored on it using the program Delete Activations and Rentals. This program formats the memory for the activation of the key and also leaves it in a uncompressed state, so that from that moment the activations will be performed uncompressed.
In addition, we have made the program Check licenses show the percentage of free memory in the dongle as you can see in the following screenshot:
Finally, we have introduced the concept of Administration Password in the dongle.
If you enter your dongle management pane in http://www.digi21.net/MisLlaves you will notice that a new configuration option has appeared that allows you to specify an administrator password Compress Key and Delete Activations and Rentals will request this activation password.
