Stereo Orthophoto

March 22, 2021

Last month we rewrote from scratch the Stereoscopic Orthophoto sensor that is usually used to perform stereoplotting photogrammetry of drones, because you only load a model and you do not have to switch between hundreds of stereoscopic pairs.

This sensor has been with us for many years, as an anecdote I can tell you that it was not developed to solve the problem of the hundreds of models of a drone project, but was made to allow a Brazilian company to restore models obtained with a radar.

The problem with this sensor was that it was very slow, as it had to calculate by software the tiles that are shown on the screen, and that required calculating the intersection of rays that were projected from the virtual projection center of each camera against the loaded MDT or MDS. This calculation was very slow and it took a long time for the tiles to appear.

Last month all this changed: Now all the calculations are done on the graphics card and thanks to devices like the Space Mouse Compact from 3D Connexion, you can even change the viewpoint as you can see in this video that we posted on social networks to announce the sensor:

Well, today we present another novelty, and it is that we have added the possibility of including in the Stereoscopic Orthophoto file both the digital surface model and the digital terrain model.

If we create this file with the two types of model, Digi3D.NET will allow us to switch from one to another in real time.

You can see this new functionality in the following video:
