Automatically inserting points at intersections when finishing a line

March 13, 2016 semantic model topology

As explained in Geometric relationships between entities, for these analyses to work correctly, there must be a vertex at the intersection whenever an entity (point, line, or polygon) crosses another entity. Until today we had two ways to insert vertices in intersections:

But these commands have their drawbacks:

  • The snap insert command only inserts vertices in the entities in which we have attempted (lines and polygons since a few days).
  • The insert vertex at the intersection of visible lines command parses the entire file, so if the file has many entities, it may be delayed. Also, it works only with lines. If a line intersects with a polygon, it does not add any vertex to the entities that form the polygon.

We just added to Digi3D.NET the Boolean variable: AUTO_INSERT_VERTEX_INTERSECTION_ON_LINE_END, which as its name indicates, automatically inserts vertices in the intersections of the line you just digitized with the rest of intersections. This command has the feature that it is capable of adding vertices in polygons (in the line that makes the boundary of the polygon or in any of the lines that form the holes of it), and it is also optimized because it only analyzes the lines that intersect with the line you just digitized. This command is code-unknowing, i.e. it will add vertices to all lines or polygons that intersect with the line you just digitized (and obviously will also add those vertices to the line itself), regardless of the codes that those lines have. In the following video I show you in action this new feature of Digi3D.NET.
