UPDATED: The end of stereoscopy with active shutter glasses
NVidia has abandoned the development of stereoscopic glasses as well as stereoscopic support in the drivers of their graphics cards.
The manufacture of active glasses was paralyzed more than 6 months ago and also, according to the Nvidia press release (https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4781), the last driver that supports stereoscopy is the driver with version number Release 418 published in April 2019.
Nvidia has a history of drivers on its website, so if you need a driver compatible with your stereoscopic glasses in the future, you can always download it, but the problem of relying on an old driver is that if in the future any change is made in the operating system regarding the graphic subsystem, that driver may stop working.
Today it is practically impossible to find active glasses on the market, so if you want to have some leftovers in case the ones you use for work get damaged, we recommend that you start looking for them as soon as possible on eBay or in online stores both in Spain and abroad.
Digi3D.NET will always be able to display stereoscopy with anaglyph glasses, auto-stereoscopic monitors, monitors with polarized glasses and stereoscopes, but of these options perhaps only the stereoscope could be considered professional.
We have been thinking a lot about how to solve this problem, because even though the photogrammetry market is as it is now, we have to continue supporting users who rely on Digi3D.NET for their profession.
We have analyzed all the solutions that are on the market (augmented reality glasses that have a price of 3000€, and virtual reality headsets, and in the end we have chosen to start developing the stereoscopic module in virtual reality for the Oculus Rift S headset, so that by the end of the year we hope to have the first BETA of Digi3D.NET for virtual reality.
This helmet of the cheapest on the market (450 €) and it is developed by a company that is dedicated only to that, so it does not seem that they will never interrupt the development of virtual reality helmets.
UPDATE: The R418 branch has already disappeared from NVIDIA's old driver search engine. However, the driver is still on their servers.
