Digi3D.NET version 2019.2.0.0

November 20, 2019

Introducing version 2019.2.0.0 of Digi3D.NET.

This version has taken longer than usual to present (historically we published a monthly version) because despite having 74 new features (improvements and fixes), most of the time we have invested in it has been to make it pass a series of tests provided by source code analyzers.

Our idea was to release version 2019.2.0.0 a month after 2019.1.0.0, but Microsoft released the source code of the Windows calculator 10 in a repository on GitHub. On the same day, hundreds of programming errors had already been discovered in that program. As it went viral, we took an interest in the subject and analyzed the errors they had discovered, and some of them were very difficult to discover in such a short time, so we discovered that they had been automatically discovered with a program called PVS-Studio Analyzer. We started analyzing the source code of Digi3D.NET with this program, continued with Clang Power Tools, by the way continued with ReSharper C++ and the days turned into months.

These programs not only detect errors, but guide you to modernize the program, and now the 100% of the part developed in C++ of Digi3D.NET is developed in what is called Modern C++, and as a result the program:

  • It's safer.
  • Consumes less memory.
  • It's faster.
  • It has no memory leaks.

As we started doing in version 2019.1.0.0, the set of program improvements appear in the GitHub repository: TareasDigi3D. If you click on the link above, you will see in the Done column each of the 74 changes.

Starting today we will start publishing blog posts explaining the changes that require an explanation.
