Added Esri Projection Engine support

March 4, 2019 OpenGis epsg esri prj shapefile wkt

We just added to Digi3D.NET the ability to create coordinate reference systems compatible with Esri Projection Engine.

Thanks to this new feature, you can create Shapefile files with coordinate reference systems and have ArcMap load them smoothly.

You can activate this feature through the menu option Tools/Configuration/Coordinate reference systems/Create WKT strings compatible with, where we find two options:

  • Esri Projection Engine without EPSG code
  • Esri Projection Engine including EPSG code
  • OpenGis Coordinate Transformation Service

If we activate any of the options of type Esri Projection Engine and create horizontal coordinate reference systems, that is, with the vertical system unknown, the .PRJ files created by Digi3D.NET will be exactly the same as those created by Esri Projection Engine.

The difference between the first two options is that the first one includes the EPSG code as in the following example for the WGS84 / UTM Zone 30N system:

PROJCS["WGS_1984_UTM_Zone_30N",GEOGCS["GCS_WGS_1984",DATUM["D_WGS_1984",SPHEROID["WGS_1984",6378137.0,298.257223563]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0.0],UNIT["Degree",0.0174532925199433]],PROJECTION["Transverse_Mercator"],PARAMETER["False_Easting",500000.0],PARAMETER["False_Northing",0.0],PARAMETER["Central_Meridian",-3.0],PARAMETER["Scale_Factor",0.9996],PARAMETER["Latitude_Of_Origin",0.0],UNIT["Meter",1.0],AUTHORITY["EPSG",32630]]

and the second does not include it, as in the following example for the same coordinate reference system:

PROJCS["WGS_1984_UTM_Zone_30N",GEOGCS["GCS_WGS_1984",DATUM["D_WGS_1984",SPHEROID["WGS_1984",6378137.0,298.257223563]],PRIMEM["Greenwich",0.0],UNIT["Degree",0.0174532925199433]],PROJECTION["Transverse_Mercator"],PARAMETER["False_Easting",500000.0],PARAMETER["False_Northing",0.0],PARAMETER["Central_Meridian",-3.0],PARAMETER["Scale_Factor",0.9996],PARAMETER["Latitude_Of_Origin",0.0],UNIT["Meter",1.0]]
